Though I own some very fine vintage guitars, owning an original 1930's L5 is a little prohibitive price-wise at this time (maybe if I had found one 5 years ago...).
After seeing Julian (who I didn't know of at the time) playing his at the 2010 Woodstock Invitational with Frank Vignola, I was very attracted to it, and started to look into getting one for myself, only to discover the cost prohibitiveness of any 1930's L5, let alone the difficulty in finding one.
What I did discover was that Gibson had made Custom Shop Reissues of the 1934 version (very much the same as the 1932) and I began to explore getting one of those, only to find out that Gibson discontinued making them in 2008!
Finding one of those is as rare as finding an original! Even used Custom Shop ones are very, very hard to find, and the few that appear from time to time get snatched up immediately.
However, my obsessive perseverance prevailed, and I eventually found a used one (a 2008 as a matter of fact) and landed it as soon as I could.
It has become one of my favorite guitars and I thank Mr. Lage for introducing it to me.
